 Setting the industry on fire in 1989 with the initial release of Upper Deck MLB trading cards, the company forged new ground with strong designs, quality card stock and innovative ideas never before used in the hobby. To this day the first card of the set, the popular Ken Griffey, Jr. rookie card remains one of the most sought after cards by collectors worldwide. Soon after they added Football, Basketball and Hockey to their repertoire and for a time even produced Racing cards. Signing deals with top names such as Wayne Gretzky and Michael Jordan, they also wanted the very best players available to represent their products. Racing cards eventually left the fold in favor of a monumental deal to produce Golf cards that included bringing in the enormously popular Tiger Woods to the UD family.
With over a decade under their belts Upper Deck has kept atop the crowd by introducing the first memorabilia cards and several other industry firsts to the hobby. They've also cornered the market on signing athletes to exclusive contracts to ensure that their products are like no others available.
