Co-Production with The Topps Company, Inc. Sponsored by
Dick’s Sporting Goods Premiere’s Today on FOXSports.com on MSN
Back on Topps, the Emmy®-nominated original online series produced by Michael Eisner’s new media studio Vuguru (www.vuguru.com) and The Topps Company, Inc., a leading creator and marketer of sports and related cards, entertainment products, and distinctive confectionery, will kick-off its second season today. Comedy duo Jason and Randy Sklar (ESPN Cheap Seats, Layers) created and star in the critically acclaimed series exclusively at FOXSports.com on MSN (http://msn.foxsports.com).
Back on Topps is a fictitious and hilarious, behind-the-scenes journey into one of the world’s most recognizable and iconic sports companies. The second season picks up where the successful first season left off when a Christian dating service rents space at Topps, testing the brothers’ faith in restraint and making things even more unpredictable at the office. To escape the chaos in their lives, Leyland and Leif Topps (played by the Sklars) retreat to Dick’s Sporting Goods, their fortress of solitude where they can work through their problems while testing out nine irons and camping gear. Along the way, they enlist the council of stars from Major League Baseball and the WNBA in their quest to prove that their love of all-things sports will save the day.
“We’re thrilled to be working with Randy and Jason on a second season of Back on Topps,” said Michael Eisner. “Their unparalleled knowledge of sports and pop culture, combined with their unique brand of comedy is what makes this series work.”
“The fact that Ron Artest is still recording music, means that we will always have a job making fun of sports,” said Randy and Jason Sklar. “Back on Topps provides the perfect outlet to lampoon a sports world that includes Olympic figure skaters running meth rings.”
FOXSports.com will post new episodes of Back on Topps every Monday, providing fans an exclusive 12-hour window to view each new episode on the site. In addition to the series’ dedicated website www.BackonTopps.com, Back on Topps will also be distributed on leading video sites such as My Damn Channel, YouTube, Blip.tv, Metacafe, Sling, Dailymotion and iTunes.
“We’re excited to bring the Sklar brothers’ offbeat humor back to FOXSports.com’s millions of users through this exclusive relationship with Vuguru,” said Ed Bunnell, VP of Programming for FOX Sports Interactive. “Our goal is to deliver the best content experience for sports fans on the Web, and Back on Topps is a great, entertaining fit next to our news, highlights and analysis.”
Dick’s Sporting Goods will serve as the lead sponsor of the series with several scenes taking place at the national retail sporting goods giant.
Randy and Jason Sklar have built a strong following in both the comedy and sports worlds. Recently they have made guest appearances in several TV shows, including an Emmy® Award winning episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm, Grey's Anatomy and HBO's Entourage. In November of 2006 they wrapped their fourth and final season of their critically acclaimed comedy series, Cheap Seats on ESPN Classic and currently write and appear in a regular segment on ESPN’s SportsCenter titled The Bracket.
